Alginic acid is a mixed polysaccharidesconsist of L-guluronic acid (G) and D-mannuronic acid (M). Alginates applied widely include water-soluble sodium alginate, potassium alginate, ammonium alginate, magnesium alginate and water-insoluble alginic acid,calcium alginate.

 Solution properties
The common alginate is sodium alginate. It is a hydrophilic colloid, easy soluble in water to become viscous solution. Due to its thickness and stability, lt is used as thickener and stabilizer in foodstuff, beverage, printing paste, and drilling fluid additives.
Gel properties
water-soluble alginate is able to ion exchangedquickly with calcium ion to form gel, which is anti-reversibility. The gel formed from alginate high G is hard but fragile.The gel formed from alginate High M is good flexibility but hardness.To adjust the proportion of H and G, different gel can be formed. Replying on different gel, alginate can be a material in bionic food, medical materials, face masks, water treatment agents, and plastic wrap.
