Physical Properties	Graphite-type boron nitride is a loose, lubricating, hygroscopic, lightweight, insoluble, and high-temperature-resistant white powder. Diamond-type boron nitride has a high hardness, second only to diamond. Pure cubic boron nitride is colorless and transparent, with a melting point of about 3000 °C under normal pressure and good thermal conductivity.
Chemical Properties	boron nitride has strong thermal stability and oxidizability. Under high temperature and high pressure, the graphite type can be transformed into the diamond type. Cubic boron nitride reacts with air or oxygen above 800 °C to form boron oxide. It will transform into hexagonal boron nitride in oxygen at 1525 °C and in vacuum between 1550 - 1600 °C. Cubic boron nitride will decompose in water vapor above 900 °C, reacting with water to form boric acid. Generally, it is not eroded by dilute acids, concentrated acids, or strong oxidants. Its reaction with alkalis is not obvious at not too high temperatures, and it is inert to iron group elements. However, it can react with aluminum at 1050 °C and with iron and nickel alloys containing aluminum at 1250 - 1300 °C.

Use

Metallurgy
Boron nitride is a die material and can be used as a release agent, a refractory coating for crucibles. When added to metal powders for sintering, it can make powder metallurgy products have self-lubricating properties.
Chemical Industry
Boron nitride is a pressure transmission medium, an insulator between samples and heating elements, for high-temperature atmospheric pressure furnaces and plasma guns, and as a dopant dispersed in high-purity silicon.
Machinery
It is used for wear-resistant coatings on the surfaces of cutting tools and tools. When dispersed in water and oil, it can be used as a lubricant for wire drawing and the forming of pressed products.
Electronics
